OpenLeg now supports RSS, Email Alerts and...
You might have noticed that the NY Senate OpenLeg system has a new view for browsing recent activity in the Senate and Assembly.
Of course we are all very busy people and probably don’t have the time every day to go check the site over and over again. What if instead you want these updates pushed out to you? Well, that’s what Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is for!
You can directly...

Agile development, our SCRUM worksheet
for the past six months, we’ve been cranking out projects and suddenly realized that we needed to adopt a development mythology. since we had already adopted a SCRUMish format for our thrice weekly calls, we decided to delve deeper. this past Tuesday, the team traveled up to Albany for #CIOCamp where we SCRUM’d all of our projects.
since we are SCRUM nubes and we are adopting this...
live on the intranet, the New NYSenate newsclips...
While not publicly accessable, this is a brief summary of an awesome new intranet project we launched for all NY Senate Staffers.
Senate Newsclips service has been developed to replace a thirty year old offline newspaper clipping operation that was manually performed by senate staffers with scissors, glue and photocopiers. As dated as the old process seemed, within it had evolved a very advanced...

The NY Senate Office of the CIO is investigating options for enterprise e-mail, calendaring, and collaboration, and we are looking for your input.

Github + NYSenate = FLOSSy goodness
Our recent efforts to open up the Senate’s legislative data and online services have gotten positive recognition from Github.com, a leader in providing social coding services and the site we happen to host our open-source projects on. Here’s an excerpt from their blog:
“The cool thing for us is that they’ve put all their open source projects up on GitHub at...

Daylife Developer API →
You might have heard we are automating our news clipping service… well, Daylife is one of the tools we are using to do this. They’ve got a great API and a smart, semantic approach to munging data.
How often should we tumble and tweet?
Just big news and releases, or do you want to know about the minutiae? We’d love to hear your thoughts…
NYStimulus.org
We’re working on making and ever better NYStimulus.org replete with videos, live streaming, the whole shebang-a-bang. Until then, you can still ask questions and find your local Town Hall at http://nystimulus.org.

Wow, the internet is fun.

Working on the Blog
So we’re trying to figure out how to get everyone who posts to our Tumblr account to simultaneously post to the @NYSenateCIO Twitter account? Why, because then it’s easier for everyone to follow us ALL the time. So, we’re sorry if we’re posting a bunch of crazy stuff as we make sure this all works out. Thank you our beloved followers!
My Bio
I am Craig Leinoff and I am semi-new to the team. And I am working on Drupal development. A long time ago, when I was a kid, I thought I’d someday grow up to be a Drupal developer.
“What’s Drupal?” everyone asked. “I don’t know,” I said. “I just don’t know.”
Those dreams came and went, as they did with most little boys. I went through the usual gamut of future career choices: fireman, policeman,...

GSA Agreement w/ Social Networking Platforms Sets...
We’re looking forward to setting new precedents for appropriate and effective use of technology and social media at the State level over the coming year… but it’s even better (= less work) when we don’t have to. Now, for a range of social networking platforms we’re already starting to us, we don’t have to, thanks to the Federal GSA. They have negotiated Terms of...
